Really JPG, really?

Muse-de-jour Beth Ditto opened and closed Jean Paul Gaultier’s Joan Jett inspired SS11 Paris show yesterday. Now considering she’s a size 28 and 5’2” it seems to me this isn’t a breakthrough for plus-size women everywhere - as in “Yay! JPG is going to make clothes in my size!”, but more of a publicity stunt - as in “Gee there seems to be a lot of interest in plus-size lately. How can I capitalize on this without ACTUALLY DESIGNING PLUS-SIZE CLOTHES!" Just IMO. What are your thoughts? Discuss …

I'd have to agree! I'm almost sad for BD as she has clearly been used here for publicity. ps: dying to see your designs... needing a dress for NYE!!

Utter crap, i hate the fact that JPG has made plus size clothes and not put them out for the public...... like i'd wear those anyway!
Beth Ditto should know better as a proud size role model! still love her!

Agree, totally love Beth Ditto. I wonder if she had a few words to say to JPG about it!

POOR BD, She really has been used in a non positive way. I do love her but I think she has been used as shock value rather than fashion muse. It's not positive at all. BTW I am also dying to see your designs, have you got any stockists?

I agree it's ridiculous to use plus size models when not making plus size clothing. On the other hand, I do like anything that makes fat people visible. This is not the first time JPG has forced fat in our faces: Crystal Renn closed his S/S06 prêt-à-porter show (when she was a couple of sizes bigger than she is now) and Velvet D'Amour walked in his S/S07 show.
